Jonathan Abandons Nigerians: Jets Out Despite Bombings

Presidents who are responsive to the plight of their citizens often abandon international engagement in foreign lands and run back home to take charge of situations whenever their people are being killed like chickens, for whatever reason.

But not so in Nigeria, particularly in the Goodluck Jonathan administration. As days become weeks and weeks turn to months, Olufamous.com observed that it is becoming evidently clear that this government does not really have what it takes to guarantee the security of lives and property of Nigerians.

While violence spread to parts of Kaduna State on Monday and fresh killings and bombings reported in Damaturu, Yobe State, President Jonathan is leaving Nigeria for Brazil on Tuesday.

Jonathan is going to the Brazilian commercial capital city, Rio de Janeiro, to take part in this year’s United Nations’ Earth Summit. He will also attend a reception hosted by the Brazilian President for Heads of Government at the summit.

Mr. President is expected to travel with his wife, Patience; Governors Ibrahim Shema and Seriake Dickson of Katsina and Bayelsa states respectively. Others on the President’s entourage are the Ministers of Environment, Mrs Hadiza Ibrahim Mailafiya; Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ohekpe; Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga; and Senator Benedict Ayade.

As Nigeria's Commander in Chief jets out to the South American country, Boko Haram is having a field day in Yobe and Kaduna states, with the death toll in both states said to be on the increase.

Officials of the Red Cross said 140 victims of the attacks had been taken to hospitals for treatment. Some of the hospitals where the victims are being treated are the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Shika; Barau Dikko Hospital, Kaduna; St. Luke’s Hospital, Wusasa; and St. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital, Kakuri.
