VIDEO: Nigeria Only Independent Gold Medalist - Chioma Ajunwa; Joined The Nigeria Police At Age 14
"She was 14years old when she joined the Nigeria Police Force. She trained as an athelete from a younger age and now she's the nation's heroine".
CNN's Vladimir Duthiers meets Chioma Ajunwa Opara, Nigeria's only individual Olympic gold medalist and a national hero.
Chioma Ajunwa is the first africa woman to win gold in the field event (Women long jump event with a 7.12m jump length). She is one of Nigeria's national heroes as the only individual gold medalist from Nigeria. Just so you know, for safety, she keeps her Atlanta 96 gold medal in the bank.
She discribes herself as one little ant in front of the big crowd when she first enter the Olympic stadium back in 1996. She never knew she would be the nation's hero. All because she never knew the meaning of Olympic, she describes not feeling anything in her after winning the gold medal until she got to Nigeria, where she was given the heroine welcome. Looking back she's proud of her achievement at the Olympics and now she's a Commanding officer of the Nigeria Police Force. Nigeria will forever be proud of you...Thank you Chioma
