500+ Nigerian Hunters with Homemade Weapons Ready to Rescue Kidnapped Girls

Traditional hunters armed with homemade guns, poisoned spears and amulets have gathered in their hundreds, eager to use their skills and what they believe to be supernatural powers to help find nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted by Islamic extremists.

Some 500 hunters, some as young as 18 and some in their 80s, say they have been specially selected by their peers for their spiritual hunting skills and have been waiting for two weeks in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital and the birthplace of Boko Haram, to get backing from the military and get moving.

South Africans horrified by the police shooting deaths of 34 miners at the Lonmin platinum mine Thursday reacted with shock and anger, some saying the violence spotlighted government incompetence and others saying it was symptomatic of a disdain for the poor and least powerful.

"What happened at Lonmin is completely unacceptable," the institute said in a statement. "There is clear evidence that policemen randomly shot into the crowd with rifles and handguns. There is also evidence of their continuing to shoot after a number of bodies can be seen dropping and others turning to run.

According to the Guardian, four members of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Olympic delegation have been missing in London since the weekend.
Among the missing are Cedric Mandembo, a judoka who lost his match in the 100kg category in 49 seconds, and his coach Ibula Masengo, Congo boxing trainer Blaise Bekwa and national technical director of athletics Guy Nkita.
All four members of the team reportedly left their luggage in the Olympic Village.

32 Sex workers Sentenced to Jail in Lagos

Thirty-two (32) out of the fifty-two (52) sex workers arrested by the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit have been sentenced to four months’ imprisonment for engaging in acts inimical to public peace and safety. The hearing of their case was held at the Special Offences Court at Alausa, Ikeja, Southwest Nigeria, on Tuesday with the Attorney General of Lagos State standing as the prosecutor. The sex workers were convicted on a three-count charge and sentenced according to the gravity of each of the charges.
